Effective Tips to Clean Your RV Carpet

Picture
If you have a motor home, you want to keep it dry and minimize the moisture it gets, right? RV carpets are what are used to these motor homes to keep its flooring dry beneath the plywood.  But still, RV carpet can easily and quickly get dirty from frequently walking back and forth on it. People and animal can both greatly contribute to its dirtiness.

So what will you do to keep your RV carpets clean? Below are effective RV carpets cleaning tips you can follow:

  • A simple thing but mostly contribute in making your RV carpet dirty is your shoes. Your shoes contain a lot of sand, dirt, and even oil remains at its soles. So the first thing that you should do to keep your RV carpet clean is to take off your shoes outside before stepping on your RV carpeted floor. Place a door mat outside your rig and any kind of rug inside your door step.

  • Another factor that contributes to getting your RV carpet dirty is due to pets. If you definitely have pets, they are another tracker of dirt to your RV carpet.  To prevent them from adding too much dirt to your RV carpet, put a towel nearby the door and help them clean their feet letting them step on the RV carpet. It is also advisable to keep their nails short to lessen the wear and tear of your RV carpet.

  • Vacuum cleaning your RV carpet frequently is another tip to keep your RV carpet clean. Through a slow and deliberate motion, push the vacuum in a forward motion following the pile direction of the carpet. After that, reverse the vacuum cleaning direction. A vacuum cleaning machine which has rotating and adjustable brushes—used for loosing soil—and a firm airflow to pick up tiny particles is the best choice.

  • If your carpet gets spots, do not run these spots but blot it up by using a soft absorbent cloth. If you are to use a spot removing agent, follow its direction for use carefully, starting from the edge of soil up getting towards the centre using little amounts.

  • For food stains on your RV carpet, try using a shaving cream. Spray it on the stained area of the carpet and let it be for fifteen minutes. After fifteen minutes, rinse it with water and vinegar solution.

  • For spots of red wine, use club soda or pour the stain with a glass of white wine immediately. This neutralizes the red wine and then eventually removes the stain.

  • For smell and stain caused by animal, you can try using an enzyme product to remove the stains. You can find this product on RV stores or pet stores.

  • If the stain on your RV carpet is oil, you can remove through using of cornstarch and baking soda. First thing to do it is to absorb all the oil on the stained carpet then sprinkle the mixture over the stain. Leave it overnight and vacuum it the following day. If some discoloration remains, blot it with a mild dishwashing liquid which cuts grease and oil.

  • If your RV carpet needs deep cleaning, you can consider different systems for it. There is the liquid carpet shampoo that can act like a magnet to pull out dirt in your RV carpet.  There are also the dry carpet cleaners that have 2 forms: dry shampoo/foam and the dry polymer compounds.  There are as well steam and foam cleaning systems.  There are chemical products you could also consider.  You can utilize all by yourself or by hiring a professional—one of these systems to deeply penetrate the dirt in your RV carpets and to keep it clean regularly.
